Charles Benefiel (b. 1967) Charles inherited a group of antique dolls from his grandmother, some in boxes as is this one. He altered some dolls and added found materials to make them more autobiographical while living in New Mexico during a difficult period. He then pictured them building up the image with dots of ink in a repeated obsessive manner. He often hid the pictures he made at that time or destroyed them.
This is a survivor.
Carla Cubit (b. 1967) was one of the artists Tina Anton found in her Art Program for the Homeless working in a NYC shelter. Some of her art made it to the ABCD Collection of art brut and is now in the Centre Pompidou in Paris. She was politically active in securing housing in vacant buildings in the Lower East Side for squatters in the past.
Terry Turrell (b. 1946) Terry lives with many dogs and cats as his family. In walks in Seattle he gets to know the neighborhood animals that often become subjects of his paintings. They have animal soul.
